Fort Augustus.

At the southern end of Loch Ness is the picturesque wee town of Fort Augustus that at the time of our visit was overrun with Japanese tourists! Most of the tourists visit the neatly landscaped canal banks to watch boats negotiate the Caledonian Canal and its five consecutive locks which lowers or raises boats some 13metres. Both the canal and the Locks were the work of the Scottish Engineer Thomas Telford.
